England Winger Set for Summer Departure After Falling Out of Favor at the Etihad
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has strongly hinted at a major summer exit, with Jack Grealish set to leave the club after three inconsistent seasons.
The Premier League champions have already spent over €130 million on new signings, including midfielders Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki, as well as full-back Rayan Ait-Nouri. But before further reinforcements arrive, Guardiola must trim his squad—and Grealish appears to be the first high-profile casualty.
The 29-year-old, who joined City in a blockbuster €117.5 million move from Aston Villa in 2021, has struggled to cement a regular starting role under Guardiola. His omission from the Club World Cup squad all but confirmed his impending departure, with the manager admitting the decision was mutual.
“He had a conversation with the club, and we decided what was for the best,” Guardiola said ahead of City’s clash with Wydad Casablanca. “Jack is an exceptional player. The only reason he didn’t play last season is my decision. The club was honest, he was honest. There’s incredible love and respect.”
Grealish’s market value has plummeted to €43.7 million—less than half of his peak valuation—but interest in the winger remains high. A return to Aston Villa has been rumored, while Tottenham Hotspur are also monitoring the situation.
With two years left on his contract, City will now look to offload Grealish to free up space and funds for further signings, marking the end of an underwhelming chapter for one of English football’s most expensive transfers.
