Man City boss praises team’s performance without injured Rodri but admits the midfielder’s absence is a challenge.
Pep Guardiola expressed frustration over repeated questions regarding the absence of star midfielder Rodri after Manchester City’s 1-1 draw against Newcastle United. Following Josko Gvardiol’s opener, City were held to a draw after Anthony Gordon’s second-half penalty equalized the score at St James’ Park.
Rodri, who is out for the season with a cruciate ligament injury, was the main focus of post-match discussions. However, Guardiola praised Mateo Kovacic, Rico Lewis, and Bernardo Silva for their performances in central midfield.
“Of course we’re going to miss Rodri,” said Guardiola in response to multiple inquiries. “Physicality, his presence… I know that, but he’s not here. I’m judging how Kovacic, Rico, and Bernardo played, and it was exceptional. I have to find a solution, and we will.”
Guardiola emphasized that City created chances to win but acknowledged that St James’ Park is a tough venue. He also addressed a scare involving Erling Haaland, who was seen limping after a challenge from Dan Burn but was able to complete the full 90 minutes.
Despite Rodri’s absence, Guardiola remains optimistic about his team’s ability to adapt and find solutions for the remainder of the season.
