Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna Wins LMA Manager of the Year

Pep Guardiola has been honored as the Premier League Manager of the Season for the fifth time after leading Manchester City to their fourth consecutive title. This recognition comes after City’s 3-1 victory over West Ham secured their latest championship. Guardiola has now won the Premier League title six times since joining Manchester City in 2016.

Other contenders for the award included Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta, Aston Villa’s Unai Emery, Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola, and Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp. However, Guardiola’s outstanding performance this season earned him the top spot, adding to his previous wins in 2017/18, 2018/19, 2020/21, and 2022/23.

In his acceptance speech, Guardiola praised his fellow nominees. “I want to share it, yes, oh yes! Especially with Mikel [Arteta] for the incredible job he has done until the last game, bringing us to our limits,” he said. He also acknowledged Klopp’s years of competitive battles, Emery’s success with Aston Villa, and Iraola’s impressive first season with Bournemouth.

Manchester City’s director of football, Txiki Begiristain, congratulated Guardiola, highlighting his inspirational leadership. “Pep’s drive to succeed has made us a beautiful team to watch and seen us once again come out on top in the toughest league in the world,” Begiristain stated.

Manchester City has a chance to add another trophy to their collection this season with the upcoming FA Cup final against Manchester United at Wembley Stadium.

McKenna, who previously coached Manchester United’s Under-18s, expressed his pride in receiving the award. “This award is one of the most humbling and proudest moments of my life,” he said. “It’s the best thing in the world, and I’ve had good experience as a first-team coach, but to be a manager in the Premier League and go up against great managers is going to be a great challenge and something I can’t wait for.”

As Ipswich Town prepares for their Premier League return, McKenna has been linked with potential managerial roles at Chelsea and Brighton & Hove Albion, showcasing the high regard in which his achievements are held.
