Pep Guardiola Rules Out Manchester City Move for Kylian Mbappe

In a recent statement, Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola made it clear that his team would not be pursuing Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe. Speaking at a golf tournament in Spain on Monday, Guardiola alluded to Mbappe’s desired destination, hinting that the Frenchman has his sights set on Spanish giants Real Madrid.

“You know where he wants to go,” Guardiola remarked, shedding light on Mbappe’s rumored interest in joining Real Madrid.

While Mbappe’s contract with PSG runs until 2024, he has informed the club of his decision not to extend it. However, he intends to remain with the Parisian side for one more season, allowing him to depart as a free agent next summer.

Last year, the 24-year-old rejected an offer from Real Madrid to stay with PSG, opting to continue his journey in the French capital.

Guardiola, participating in the Legends Trophy tournament in Emporda, his hometown in Catalonia, also disclosed that Manchester City is engaged in a battle with his former club Barcelona over midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.

Gundogan, a German international, is approaching the end of his contract with Manchester City, and Guardiola is eager for him to stay. However, Barcelona is making efforts to entice the midfielder to La Liga.

“I know that Barcelona are interested—and City is too,” Guardiola revealed. His City side achieved a historic treble last season, triumphing in the Champions League, Premier League, and FA Cup.

“I hope he stays with us. If he goes to Barca, it would be an extraordinary signing. We’re fighting for him to stay,” Guardiola added, expressing his desire to retain Gundogan’s services.

Acknowledging Barcelona’s interest, Guardiola mentioned that former Barcelona player Xavi has made numerous calls to Gundogan. Should the German sign with Barcelona, Guardiola expressed his belief that the midfielder would have a fantastic experience at the Catalan club.
