Pep Guardiola Shows Support for Erik ten Hag After Manchester United Dismissal

Manchester City Manager Opens Doors to Former Rival, Praises Amorim Amid United’s Search for New Leadership

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola expressed his sympathy and support for Erik ten Hag following the Dutchman’s recent sacking from Manchester United. Ten Hag was dismissed on Monday after United’s 2-1 loss to West Ham, which left them 14th in the Premier League standings.

Guardiola, who has known Ten Hag since their time together at Bayern Munich, extended an open invitation for him to visit City. “Ten Hag can come to see us any time, seriously. My door is open,” he told reporters, adding that while advice may not be needed, the camaraderie between managers remains strong.

Reflecting on the tough realities of management, Guardiola said, “Our job as managers is one of the few where people expect you to be sacked. It’s not like with architects or doctors. We have to accept it, but I feel sorry for him.”

Amid reports that United are looking to Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim as Ten Hag’s successor, Guardiola praised the Portuguese coach’s accomplishments. “I’ve played twice against Ruben’s Sporting team, and the pressure they put on was excellent,” he said, noting that Amorim, still unbeaten in the Portuguese League and competing strongly in the Champions League, has shown himself to be a high-caliber manager.

Responding to questions about Amorim’s experience level, Guardiola dismissed any concerns. “I started at Barcelona at 37, coming from the fourth division. Knowledge is knowledge,” he emphasized. “If you’re able, age doesn’t matter. Talent is what counts.”

As Manchester United considers Amorim for the managerial role, Guardiola’s remarks highlight the respect shared among rivals and a recognition of Amorim’s capabilities, regardless of age or experience.
