BBNaija star says “grief has no manual” after being judged for partying weeks following her sister’s burial.
BBNaija star Phyna has publicly responded to a wave of online criticism after she was seen clubbing with actress Regina Daniels, just weeks after laying her sister to rest.
The reality TV star, whose sister Ruth Otabor passed away in August and was buried in September, faced backlash on social media where users questioned her decision to be at a nightclub so soon after the loss. The criticism prompted her friend, Regina Daniels, to initially defend her, urging people not to judge how others heal.
Now, Phyna has taken to her own X (formerly Twitter) account to address the controversy directly. In a powerful statement, she challenged the notion that there is a right way to mourn.
“Grief has no manual, and it doesn’t look the same on everyone. Stop telling people how to mourn,” she wrote.
She expanded on her feelings in a follow-up post, stating, “Grief has no manual, no fixed face, and no timetable. The fact that I choose to keep living, smiling, or sharing moments does not erase the pain I carry. Respect the process, even if you do not understand it. If you cannot extend compassion, then at least extend silence.”
The posts have sparked a divided reaction online. While many of her supporters have rallied around her, praising her strength and right to grieve in her own way, other critics remain unconvinced, insisting that her appearance at a club was inappropriate and “too soon” after her family’s tragedy.
