The Reds’ boss retains the trust of the Anfield hierarchy, but the message is clear: results must improve before the New Year.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot continues to have the confidence of the club’s decision-makers despite a worrying run of four consecutive Premier League defeats, according to top transfer insider Fabrizio Romano.
While the recent slump has sparked external speculation about Slot’s job security, Romano reports that an immediate dismissal is not on the cards. Liverpool chiefs are understood to still have “full trust” in the Dutch coach and believe he is the right man to steer the team out of its current crisis.
The club’s leadership is reportedly taking a long-term view, taking into account the significant summer overhaul of the squad and a spate of injuries that have complicated the start of the campaign. They recognize that integrating so many new faces requires patience.
However, this patience is not unlimited. Romano adds a crucial caveat: the board’s support is contingent on a tangible turnaround in performance. If the negative results persist throughout November and December, Slot’s position will become “inevitably” under serious scrutiny, forcing a difficult conversation.
The urgency of the situation was highlighted by Saturday’s 3-2 loss to Brentford, which cemented the team’s worst league run in years and dropped them to sixth in the table, seven points behind rivals Arsenal.
This slump is a stark contrast to Slot’s debut season, which was a resounding success. He led the club to its second-ever Premier League title, a feat that bought him significant credit. Now, after a record-breaking €482.9 million summer spend on stars like Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz, the expectation is for the team to compete at the top, making the current form all the more concerning.
