Paris Saint-Germain has responded with outright dismissal to reported interest from Chelsea and Aston Villa in their teenage prodigy, Ibrahim Mbaye. According to a report from journalist Florian Plettenberg, when a source at the reigning European champions was questioned about the Premier League clubs’ inquiries, the reply was simply a crying-laughing emoji—a clear signal that a January sale is unthinkable.
The 17-year-old winger is enjoying a breakthrough season, having already made 19 senior appearances this term and contributing a goal and two assists in Ligue 1. His rapid rise was further highlighted on the international stage, where he played a part in Senegal’s Africa Cup of Nations triumph, featuring in all but one of their matches, including the final.
Despite his youth, Mbaye has shown he belongs at the top level. However, his path at the Parc des Princes is crowded with world-class attacking talent. His opportunities have often arisen due to absences, such as Ousmane Dembélé’s early-season injuries. With Dembélé fit, Mbaye’s minutes have been scarce, with recent starts coming mainly in rotated sides against Ligue 1’s strugglers.
This quest for consistent playing time is set to shape his future. While a move this winter is firmly off the table, interest is expected to resurge in the summer. Chelsea, in particular, may feel encouraged to test PSG’s resolve again. The teenager’s contract runs until 2028, and extension talks are anticipated soon.
