Joao Neves’ spectacular hat-trick, including two breathtaking overhead kicks, leads the reigning champions to a dominant 6-3 victory, ending Toulouse’s unbeaten start to the season.
In a stunning display of attacking prowess, Paris Saint-Germain exploded for four first-half goals to dismantle Toulouse FC 6-3 at the Stadium de Toulouse on Sunday, emphatically reclaiming the top spot in Ligue 1.
The match was effectively decided within a breathtaking and brutal nine-minute spell, silencing the partisan home crowd and ending Toulouse’s proud unbeaten start to the campaign.
The visitors announced their intentions early, with Portuguese midfielder Joao Neves opening the floodgates in spectacular fashion, connecting with an acrobatic overhead kick to stun the home side. Before the fans could catch their breath, winger Bradley Barcola doubled the lead, coolly slotting home after getting behind the defense.
In an almost unbelievable sequence, Neves then repeated his acrobatic feat, scoring another stunning overhead kick to complete a quickfire brace and put PSG up 3-0 before the quarter-hour mark. The reigning champions were in a merciless mood.
“We started with incredible intensity and quality,” said PSG manager Luis Enrique. “When you have players who can produce moments of magic like that, it makes the job look easy.”
Toulouse, to their credit, refused to capitulate. They found a lifeline when Charlie Cresswell hammered a goal home in the 36th minute. They had a golden opportunity to claw closer just before halftime, but PSG keeper Lucas Chevalier emerged as a hero, remarkably saving a penalty from Frank Magri and the subsequent rebound.
Any hopes of a miraculous comeback were dashed early in the second half when Ousmane Dembélé, who was impeccable from the spot, converted another penalty to make it 4-1. Dembélé would later be forced off with a suspected hamstring injury, a rare concern on an otherwise flawless day for PSG.
Neves wasn’t finished, however, sealing his man-of-the-match performance and a spectacular hat-trick by rifling a powerful shot from the edge of the area. Late consolations from Yann Gboho and Alexis Vossah for Toulouse provided a glimmer of pride but did little to change the outcome.
The 6-3 victory, PSG’s 12th consecutive away win, sends a resounding message to the rest of Ligue 1. For a valiant but ultimately overwhelmed Toulouse, the defeat is a harsh lesson in the level required to compete with a European giant operating at its devastating best.
