Coach Reaffirms Faith Despite Player’s Desire for “New Challenge”
Manchester United manager Rúben Amorim has confirmed that Marcus Rashford remains part of the club’s plans, even as the forward hinted at a possible departure. The 27-year-old recently expressed his desire for a “new challenge” following a challenging 18 months of inconsistent form and being omitted from the squad for last weekend’s Manchester derby.
Amorim Stresses Belief in Rashford
Speaking after United’s 4-3 loss to Tottenham in the Carabao Cup, Amorim dismissed suggestions that the England international is on his way out. “Tomorrow we have training, and he will be there preparing for the next game. He is a United player—everyone has a future at Manchester United,” Amorim told Sky Sports.
The coach acknowledged the difficulties Rashford has faced but reinforced the club’s commitment to helping him regain his best form. “We believe in Marcus. He just needs to perform at the highest level, and that is my focus. I just want to help him,” he added.
Tensions Behind the Scenes
Rashford’s public comments about seeking new challenges have raised questions about his relationship with Amorim and his long-term future at Old Trafford. The manager admitted he would have preferred the forward to address his concerns privately.
“It’s a hard situation to comment on,” Amorim said. “If I give it too much importance, it will make big headlines. If I downplay it, it seems my standards are low. It’s about focusing on the present—he’s a big talent, and this club needs big talents.”
No Squad Return Yet
Despite Amorim’s reassurances, Rashford was absent from the squad during Thursday night’s Carabao Cup defeat. The coach suggested his decisions were based on the team’s needs and dynamics rather than a lack of belief in the player.
With January approaching and speculation mounting, Amorim’s statements suggest the door remains open for Rashford to rediscover his form and reaffirm his place at Manchester United. Whether the forward stays or moves on, both player and club will need to navigate the coming months carefully.
