England Star Set for Camp Nou Medical After Lengthy Exit Saga – Flick Backs Him to Shine
Marcus Rashford’s turbulent Manchester United chapter is finally coming to an end, with Barcelona reaching an agreement to sign the English forward on an initial loan deal—fulfilling his long-held desire to join the Catalan giants.
The 27-year-old, who has been training separately from United’s first team since pre-season, will now travel to Spain for a medical after the two clubs finalized terms. According to Fabrizio Romano, the deal includes an option for a permanent transfer next summer, with Barcelona covering Rashford’s full £300,000-a-week wages—a key demand from United.
Rashford’s exit became inevitable after a public fallout with manager Ruben Amorim last season, compounded by the symbolic stripping of his No. 10 shirt for new signing Matheus Cunha. Despite a productive loan spell at Aston Villa (4 goals, 6 assists in 17 games), the academy graduate opted against staying, with Camp Nou always his preferred destination.
Barcelona boss Hansi Flick, a vocal admirer of Rashford, pushed for the move after missing out on Nico Williams (who renewed at Athletic Bilbao) and deeming Liverpool’s Luis Díaz too costly. The German believes he can revive Rashford’s career, offering competition to Raphinha and Lamine Yamal on the wings.
With 138 goals and 77 assists in 426 United appearances, Rashford leaves as a modern-day cult hero—albeit one in need of a fresh start. His debut could come as early as July 27 against Vissel Kobe, with the England international set to join Barcelona’s pre-season tour of Asia. For United, it closes a bittersweet saga; for Rashford, it’s the chance to reignite his career under the Spanish sun.
