Manchester United owner overrules manager, refusing to pay the 37-year-old striker’s massive wages in a shift from past transfer policies.
A clear disagreement has emerged at Manchester United, with manager Ruben Amorim and co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe at odds over a move for veteran striker Robert Lewandowski.
Amorim is reportedly keen to sign the Barcelona star, who is expected to be available on a free transfer next summer. The manager believes the Polish striker’s experience and quality would significantly benefit his attacking line.
However, Ratcliffe has firmly blocked the move. The owner is unwilling to approve the enormous financial package required for the 37-year-old, who currently earns a reported £540,000 per week. This decision marks a deliberate new strategy for United, moving away from their past history of signing aging superstars on costly contracts that have provided diminishing returns.
With Ratcliffe’s veto, the club signals its intent to avoid repeating what it views as the expensive mistakes of the past, placing a new emphasis on sustainable squad building over short-term marquee signings.
