Real Madrid Block Ancelotti’s Brazil Move as Contract Dispute Turns Ugly

Florentino Pérez Refuses to Pay Exit Fee, Leaving Brazilian Dream in Jeopardy

Real Madrid are digging in their heels over manager Carlo Ancelotti’s expected departure to take charge of Brazil’s national team, with club president Florentino Pérez refusing to let him leave without a fight.

The Italian coach, who has been widely linked with the Brazil job in recent months, now faces an unexpected roadblock as Madrid demand compensation—something Pérez is unwilling to pay. The standoff has thrown Ancelotti’s future into doubt, with reports suggesting Brazil may now turn to other candidates.

A Season of Frustration

Ancelotti’s final campaign at the Bernabéu could end without silverware after a painful Champions League exit to Arsenal and a Copa del Rey final defeat to Atlético Madrid. With Barcelona leading La Liga, the legendary manager—who has won four Champions League titles, two with Real Madrid—may finish the season empty-handed.

Despite this, Ancelotti remains one of the most respected figures in football, and Brazil had been confident of securing his signature. However, the move has stalled due to Madrid’s demands.

Pérez Plays Hardball

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Ancelotti had a verbal agreement with the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) for days, but Real Madrid were never officially informed. The club insists they will not pay any termination fee to release him early from his contract, which runs until 2026.

Brazilian outlet Globo now claims the CBF has walked away from negotiations entirely, with Jorge Jesus emerging as the new favorite for the job.

Ancelotti’s Uncertain Future

Pérez’s stance has left Ancelotti in limbo. The 65-year-old could still leave if he agrees to walk away without compensation, but that seems unlikely. Meanwhile, Real Madrid are already planning for the future, with former midfielder Xabi Alonso heavily tipped as his successor.

For now, Ancelotti remains Madrid’s manager, but his dream move to Brazil appears to be slipping away—all because of a financial dispute with the club he has served for years.
