Prosecutors Allege €1 Million Evasion as Football’s Most Decorated Manager Enters Legal Battle
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti is set to stand trial next week in Spain, facing serious tax fraud charges that could result in a nearly five-year prison sentence.
Spanish prosecutors allege the 65-year-old Italian evaded €1 million (£833,000) in taxes during his first stint at Real Madrid between 2014 and 2015. Authorities claim he used shell companies to conceal parts of his earnings—an accusation Ancelotti firmly denies.
The Madrid court has scheduled the trial for April 2, with prosecutors seeking a four-year, nine-month sentence on two counts of tax fraud. If convicted, Ancelotti would join a list of high-profile Real Madrid figures—including Cristiano Ronaldo and Luka Modric—who have faced similar charges in recent years.
Despite the looming legal battle, Ancelotti remains focused on his historic second spell at the Bernabéu, where he has already secured a Champions League and La Liga double. The most successful manager in Champions League history—with five titles across his time at AC Milan and Real Madrid—he is also the only coach to win domestic leagues in all of Europe’s top five competitions.
As the football world watches, the case threatens to overshadow what has been a glittering career. Yet for now, Ancelotti continues his work, preparing Madrid for their next challenge—both on and off the pitch.
