Incident Occurs During Travel to Red Bull Arena; Jude Bellingham’s Status Remains Uncertain
Real Madrid’s preparations for their crucial Champions League fixture against RB Leipzig hit a snag when their team bus was involved in a crash en route to the Red Bull Arena. The incident occurred during the journey from Erfurt to Leipzig, where the match is set to take place on Tuesday night.
Due to an airport strike, Los Blancos were forced to fly to Erfurt instead of directly to Leipzig. Following their arrival, the team embarked on a 100-mile drive to Leipzig. However, according to reports from German newspaper BILD, the bus was involved in an incident with a white Toyota during the journey. The collision reportedly occurred when the bus driver attempted to change lanes, resulting in damage to the exterior mirror of the Toyota. The cost of the damage was estimated to be more than £2,000.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported among Real Madrid’s star-studded squad, and the damage to the bus was minimal, with only scratches on the driver’s side. The team bus eventually arrived at the team hotel, Steigenberger, in downtown Leipzig around 3 pm local time.
Notably, Real Madrid sensation Jude Bellingham was not named in the squad for the Champions League clash. Bellingham, who recently suffered an ankle injury in Real Madrid’s 4-0 victory over Girona, did not disembark from the bus upon arrival in Leipzig.
However, RB Leipzig boss Marco Rose expressed skepticism regarding Bellingham’s absence from the squad, suggesting that the English midfielder may still feature in the match.
“I don’t believe he’ll be out until he’s not in the stadium tomorrow,” Rose stated during his press conference. “I know Jude, he will do everything to play the Champions League game. He might see other doctors today in order to be fit. I’ve read a lot but we’ll see if he’s here or not.”
As both teams await kickoff, the incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of football and the challenges teams may encounter even before stepping onto the pitch for a crucial match.
