Vinicius, Mbappé, and Rodrygo Lead the Charge in Doha
In a dazzling display of teamwork and skill, Real Madrid defeated Mexican side Pachuca 3-0 in Doha to claim the FIFA Intercontinental Cup. Despite a challenging start from the spirited Pachuca team, Los Blancos showcased their class and clinical finishing to secure their second trophy of the season.
Pachuca came out firing, aiming to unsettle Real Madrid’s defense with early attempts. However, their efforts failed to trouble Thibaut Courtois, as Madrid bided their time.
The breakthrough came in the 37th minute when Vinícius Júnior, after receiving a sublime pass from Jude Bellingham, danced past goalkeeper Carlos Moreno. The Brazilian unselfishly set up Kylian Mbappé for an easy tap-in, opening the scoring.
Early in the second half, Pachuca’s Nelson Deossa nearly equalized with a deflected shot that sailed just wide. Real Madrid responded immediately. In the 53rd minute, Rodrygo curled in a magnificent effort, doubling the lead. Despite a VAR review over potential offside interference by Bellingham, the goal stood.
Pachuca’s Salomón Rondón came close to pulling one back in the 70th minute with a powerful header that narrowly missed. Real Madrid sealed the win in the 85th minute when Vinícius confidently converted a penalty after Lucas Vázquez was fouled in the box.
Madrid’s Trophy-Laden Start to the Season
This victory follows Madrid’s earlier success in the UEFA Super Cup and provides a much-needed boost in a challenging season. The team currently sits third in La Liga, just a point behind Barcelona and Atlético Madrid. In the Champions League, their inconsistent form has left them eyeing a potential playoff route.
Manager Carlo Ancelotti will be looking to build on this momentum as Madrid aim to contend for major titles during the season’s critical stages.
Man of the Match: Kylian Mbappé
Mbappé delivered a standout performance during his 62 minutes on the pitch. Scoring the opener and assisting Rodrygo for the second goal, the Frenchman consistently troubled Pachuca’s defense with his pace and creativity.
