Club launches investigation after social media captures offensive chants directed at the young star
Real Madrid has issued a statement condemning offensive fan behavior following their 4-0 loss to Barcelona in Saturday’s highly anticipated El Clásico clash at the Santiago Bernabéu. The game, which marked the first La Liga face-off between the rivals for the 2024/25 season, saw Barcelona dominate as Robert Lewandowski scored twice, while Lamine Yamal and Raphinha each added goals to secure the victory.
However, after the final whistle, a social media video emerged showing some fans shouting racist and xenophobic slurs at Yamal, who had just celebrated his goal that brought the score to 3-0.
In response, Real Madrid publicly denounced these actions on their official website.
“Real Madrid categorically condemns any type of behavior that involves racism, xenophobia, or violence in football and sport, and deeply regrets the insults that a few fans uttered last night in one of the corners of the stadium,” read the statement. The club confirmed it has initiated an investigation to identify those responsible for the hateful chants, stating that “relevant disciplinary and judicial measures” will follow.
Yamal, reflecting on the team’s impressive win, expressed pride in their performance against Real Madrid. “People said we were only beating mid-table teams, but tonight we proved ourselves against one of the best in the world,” he said. The 17-year-old added, “Winning El Clásico is a special feeling, but it’s just three points. Now, we’re focused on the next game against Espanyol.”
Barcelona’s win extends their lead in La Liga to six points, a strong foothold for the title race following their historic success at the Bernabéu.
