Court Accuses Four Players of Privacy Violations as Club Monitors Situation
Real Madrid defender Raul Asencio could face serious legal consequences after a Spanish court concluded an investigation into allegations that he and three other players distributed a private sex tape without consent—one involving a minor.
The 22-year-old, who started in Madrid’s recent La Liga clash against Mallorca, is accused alongside teammates Ferran Ruiz, Juan Rodriguez, and Andres Garcia in a case stemming from a 2023 incident at a Gran Canaria beach club. According to The Athletic, the San Bartolome de Tirajana court found sufficient evidence to suggest the players violated privacy laws by allegedly recording and sharing explicit videos of two women, one of whom was underage.
Spanish authorities initially arrested Ruiz, Rodriguez, and Garcia last September, while Asencio was questioned as a witness before later becoming part of the investigation. Real Madrid, at the time, acknowledged that Castilla and Real Madrid C players had given statements regarding “the alleged broadcasting of a private video via WhatsApp” and vowed to take action once more details emerged.
On Wednesday, the court confirmed the investigation’s conclusion, charging the players with multiple offenses, including “discovery of secrets without consent,” “distribution of private videos,” and “recruitment or use of minors for pornographic purposes.”
The case now moves to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which must decide whether to pursue a trial or dismiss the charges. Either decision could be appealed, prolonging the legal battle.
Real Madrid has yet to issue a new statement, but the scandal casts a shadow over Asencio’s future at the club. With the legal process unfolding, the players involved could face severe penalties—including potential prison time—if convicted.
Asencio, a rising talent in Madrid’s defensive ranks, now finds himself in a career-threatening situation as fans and officials await the next legal steps.
