Liverpool Emerge as Front-Runner for “Dream” Move as Defender Seeks Title-Winning Club
Real Madrid have abruptly withdrawn from the transfer race for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, with Spanish reports indicating the club was unwilling to meet the Englishman’s substantial financial demands.
According to Spanish publication AS, the reigning La Liga champions have decided that the costs associated with signing Guehi—including his requested salary and signing bonus—make a deal “practically unfeasible.” This decision comes despite the 24-year-old being considered a potential defensive target for the Spanish giants.
The news significantly boosts the prospects of Liverpool and Bayern Munich, who are now seen as the leading contenders for his signature. The path to Anfield appears particularly clear, with the report stating it is Guehi’s “dream destination.” A move to Merseyside collapsed on Deadline Day after Palace, fearing they couldn’t find a replacement, pulled the plug—a decision that was reportedly backed strongly by manager Oliver Glasner.
Guehi is now expected to take his time deciding his next move, with a summer transfer looking increasingly likely. The defender is said to be holding out for a club where he can “fight for titles” and gain the international recognition he craves. If he were to join Liverpool, he would be a direct replacement for Ibrahima Konaté, who is himself widely expected to make a move to the Spanish capital.
