Vinícius Jr. sidelined as injury crisis deepens for Los Blancos.
Real Madrid’s preparations for their pivotal Champions League match against Liverpool have been dealt another blow, with star forward Vinícius Jr. ruled out due to a left hamstring injury. The club confirmed the news in an official statement, further complicating their already challenging season.
Mounting Injury Woes
Carlo Ancelotti’s squad has been plagued by injuries throughout the campaign. Key defenders Dani Carvajal and Éder Militão are sidelined with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries, while David Alaba remains unavailable after suffering a similar setback last November. Additionally, Lucas Vázquez, Aurélien Tchouaméni, and Rodrygo are out of action, leaving the team stretched thin.
The club’s statement on Vinícius Jr.’s condition read:
“Following tests carried out today by the Real Madrid Medical Services on our player Vini Jr., he has been diagnosed with an injury to the biceps femoris in his left leg. His progress will be monitored.”
High-Stakes Match in the Champions League
Real Madrid’s injury crisis comes at a critical juncture in their Champions League campaign. The defending champions have had an uncharacteristically slow start, losing two of their first four group games. Their most recent 3-1 loss to AC Milan has left them 18th in the group standings and at risk of only qualifying for the playoff stage if their form doesn’t improve.
In stark contrast, Liverpool have been dominant, winning all four of their opening group fixtures. Manager Arne Slot’s side has scored 10 goals while conceding just one, making them firm favorites heading into the showdown at Anfield.
Tactical Adjustments Loom
Ancelotti faces tough decisions about how to configure his attack without Vinícius Jr. and possibly Rodrygo. According to Marca, the manager is likely to deploy one of Brahim Díaz, Arda Güler, or Endrick alongside Kylian Mbappé.
Díaz, who recently returned from injury, has been in strong form, netting five goals during international duty with Morocco. Güler impressed in a starting role during Real’s 3-0 win over Leganés and could be given the nod again.
Uphill Battle for Los Blancos
With injuries mounting and Liverpool in red-hot form, Real Madrid’s trip to Anfield is shaping up to be a monumental challenge. However, Ancelotti’s side will need to summon their fighting spirit to keep their Champions League hopes alive.
