Spanish Giants Eye Arsenal’s Defensive Star for 2025 Deal Amid Ageing Backline Concerns
Real Madrid have reportedly set their sights on Arsenal’s star centre-back William Saliba as part of their plans to rejuvenate their ageing defense. According to multiple sources, the La Liga giants are preparing to make a move for the French defender in the summer of 2025.
Saliba, who joined Arsenal in 2019 for a £27 million transfer from Saint-Etienne, has become a key figure in Mikel Arteta’s defense. After spending several seasons on loan in Ligue 1, Saliba returned to Arsenal in 2022 and has since established himself as one of the top defenders in the Premier League. The 23-year-old has formed a formidable partnership with Gabriel Magalhães, helping Arsenal concede the fewest goals in the league last season.
However, Real Madrid’s interest in Saliba has intensified, with reports from Fichajes and TBRFootball confirming the club’s desire to secure his services. The Spanish side is looking to bolster their defense, which currently includes veterans like Antonio Rudiger (31) and David Alaba (32), while Nacho’s departure this summer has left a gap in their backline.
Despite Saliba’s long-term contract with Arsenal until 2027, Madrid’s plan to lure him to Spain hinges on the possibility of turning the player’s head and convincing him to push for a transfer. Real Madrid scouts were reportedly present during Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa in August, where Saliba impressed with a near-flawless defensive display.
While Arsenal will undoubtedly resist selling their prized defender, Real Madrid’s financial power and Saliba’s growing reputation could turn this into one of the most high-profile transfer sagas in the coming years.
