Real Madrid Target Arsenal’s Saliba and Gabriel, But Gunners Refuse to Sell

Gabriel and Saliba

Los Blancos reportedly interested in defensive duo, but Arsenal stand firm on their transfer stance.

Real Madrid’s pursuit of defensive reinforcements has reportedly turned toward Arsenal’s formidable central defensive pairing of William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes. However, the Gunners have made it clear they have no intention of parting ways with their star defenders.

The Spanish giants, led by Carlo Ancelotti, are said to be impressed by Saliba’s consistency over the past two seasons. Much like their acquisition of Raphael Varane in the past, Real Madrid reportedly see the young Frenchman as a key long-term addition to bolster their defense, which has been plagued by injuries to David Alaba, Éder Militão, and Dani Carvajal.

Recent reports suggest that Gabriel Magalhaes, Saliba’s Brazilian defensive partner, has also caught Real Madrid’s eye. Known for his dominance in set-piece situations and commanding presence at the back, Gabriel has drawn comparisons to former Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos.

Despite the reported interest, Arsenal have no intention of letting either player leave. Manager Mikel Arteta views Saliba and Gabriel as integral to the club’s ambitions in both the Premier League and Champions League. The duo has forged one of the most reliable defensive partnerships in world football, a foundation of Arsenal’s resurgence under Arteta.

Arsenal’s stance is strengthened by the players’ own commitment to the club. Gabriel, who was signed despite competition from Tottenham and Manchester United, is reportedly content at the Emirates and focused on securing silverware with the Gunners this season. Similarly, Saliba has consistently delivered top-tier performances, further solidifying his status as a cornerstone of Arsenal’s defense.

Arteta has heaped praise on Gabriel, stating that the defender has elevated his game to a world-class level since joining Arsenal. The Gunners are unwilling to entertain offers, regardless of Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez’s track record of landing marquee signings like Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappé.

Unless either defender pushes for a move—a scenario deemed highly unlikely—Real Madrid’s hopes of landing Saliba or Gabriel appear slim. Arsenal’s focus remains on retaining their defensive stalwarts as they aim to challenge for major honors this season.
