Regina Daniels’ Mother Defeated in Bid to Lead Nigerian Actors Guild

Rita Daniels’ Political Ambitions Stumble Again as Guild Members Elect New Leadership

In a setback for her political ambitions, Rita Daniels, the prominent public figure and mother of Nollywood star Regina Daniels, has lost her bid to become the national president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN).

The election, held on Saturday to choose a successor for outgoing president Emeka Rollas, saw Daniels face off against the guild’s current National Secretary, Abubakar Yakubu. Despite her visibility and campaigning, Yakubu emerged victorious, securing the leadership role.

News of the result spread quickly online, with many social media users expressing little surprise at the outcome. “Many viewers claimed they were not surprised by the final result,” one observer noted, highlighting the challenging race.

This marks the second political defeat for Daniels in recent years. In 2022, she contested the PDP primary for the Aniocha South Constituency in Delta State but garnered only a single vote—a result that underscored the difficult path from celebrity association to elected office.

The Actors Guild of Nigeria now moves forward under its newly elected president, while Rita Daniels’ future in public service remains an open question.
