Social Media Critic Alleges Wrongful Arrest, Threatens to Expose GTBank’s Role in Detention
Nigerian social commentator Verydarkman has issued a stern warning to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following his recent five-day detention, cautioning them against releasing his arrest mugshot with “money laundering” allegations.
In a fiery video posted immediately after regaining access to his social media accounts, the controversial figure claimed EFCC officials photographed him during custody but threatened legal action if the image surfaces with fraud-related captions.
“If you release that photo with ‘money laundering’ attached, there will be trouble,” he declared. “I’m not a fraudster. If you label me as one, it means every past arrest mugshot you’ve published is equally questionable.”
The outspoken critic also turned his attention to GTBank, accusing the financial institution of involvement in his arrest. He vowed to release what he called “video evidence” exposing the bank’s role once his confiscated phone is returned.
Accompanying the video was a pointed message: “Dear EFCC, if we’re to work together for a better Nigeria, we must start with integrity—not lies. As for @gtbank, I’ll be needing explanations.”
The development comes amid growing scrutiny of EFCC’s arrest protocols and raises fresh questions about corporate influence in anti-graft operations. Verydarkman’s promised revelations could spark another social media firestorm in Nigeria’s ongoing debate about justice and accountability.
