Rodri Plays Down Injury Fears After Early Scare in Man City Win

The midfielder is confident he will be fit for Everton after a hamstring issue forced him off against Brentford, easing concerns for Pep Guardiola.

In a welcome relief for Manchester City, midfielder Rodri has moved to calm fears after he was forced off with a hamstring injury just 20 minutes into his side’s 1-0 victory over Brentford.

The Spaniard, who has only recently returned from a long-term knee injury, hobbled off the pitch at the Gtech Stadium, sparking immediate concern. However, Rodri has since provided an optimistic update, suggesting the problem is minor and that his quick substitution prevented more serious damage.

“I’m good,” Rodri assured after the match. “I felt a little bit in the hamstring but it seems like it’s not that much… The good thing about this is you get out, you don’t let the muscle stretch. The good thing is the break so it will be even better to recover these days and hopefully I can be in the next game.”

While the issue is enough to rule him out of Spain’s upcoming international fixtures, Rodri is targeting a return for City’s Premier League clash with Everton in a fortnight.

His positive self-assessment offers a brighter outlook than the cautious one given by manager Pep Guardiola just days before the match. Guardiola had warned that it might take until next season for Rodri to fully rediscover his Ballon d’Or-winning form after his previous major layoff, stating, “This season will be how we handle it, step by step.” For now, City will be hoping their key midfielder’s own diagnosis is the correct one.
