Former Captain Says Substitutes “Brought the Levels Down” in Costly Draw with West Ham
Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane delivered a blistering verdict on the current squad after a 1-1 draw with West Ham, singling out Mason Mount for particularly harsh criticism.

Keane, speaking on Sky Sports, said the midfielder looked “like a schoolboy” after coming on as a substitute and accused the bench players of reducing the team’s standard.
“I look at Mason Mount when he came on… he was like a schoolboy out there,” Keane stated. “You’re looking for players to come on with presence. If anything, they brought the levels down at United.”
His critique extended to the squad’s overall strength, questioning both its depth and mentality after United failed to secure a win that would have moved them into the Premier League’s top five.
“The reason you are playing for Man Utd is that you deal with these situations,” Keane said. “I wouldn’t trust or believe in this team that they can get results… If they are anxious, you worry why they are playing for Man Utd.”
The match saw United take the lead through Diogo Dalot before conceding a late equalizer to West Ham’s Soungoutou Magassa, compounding a week of frustration after a prior loss to Everton. The result leaves manager Ruben Amorim under increased scrutiny as United’s inconsistent season continues.
