Under-fire United boss acknowledges job insecurity amid a string of poor results and mounting pressure.
Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has openly admitted that he is “in danger” of losing his job after a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Wolves on Boxing Day. The loss marked United’s third consecutive defeat across all competitions, leaving the team in 14th place in the Premier League, just eight points clear of the relegation zone.
Pressure Mounting at Old Trafford
Amorim, who has been at the helm for just over a month, has faced increasing scrutiny after a string of underwhelming performances. Speaking ahead of United’s upcoming match against Newcastle United, the 39-year-old conceded that his position is precarious.
“The manager of Manchester United can never, no matter what, be comfortable,” Amorim said. “I know that if we don’t win, regardless of whether they pay the buyout clause or not, every manager is in danger—and I like that because it’s part of the job.
“You can argue I’ve only been here a month and had just four training sessions, but the reality is we’re not winning. That’s the situation, and I’m quite comfortable with the pressure because it comes with this role.”
A Tough Transition
Amorim admitted the challenges of stepping into one of the most demanding jobs in football during a turbulent period. However, he dismissed speculation that he should have waited until summer to take charge.
“There’s no point in talking about what could have been,” he said. “I’m here, and I have to focus on the job.
“It’s part of football to have these difficult moments. I already knew it was going to be tough. At this moment, it’s really hard. We have to survive, buy time, and then improve the team.”
Targeting Improvements
Among the many issues facing United, set-piece struggles have emerged as a key weakness under Amorim’s tenure. The coach acknowledged the problem but emphasized the need for broader team improvement.
“No matter what you do, if set pieces are becoming so important, you have to address them properly. It’s one of many areas we need to work on,” Amorim said.
A Crucial Match Ahead
Manchester United host Newcastle United at Old Trafford on Monday night, a game that could prove pivotal for Amorim’s future at the club. With mounting pressure from fans and pundits, the Portuguese coach will need a strong performance to quell speculation about his potential dismissal.
