The Legendary Striker Reflects on His Interim Role as Ruben Amorim Prepares to Take Charge
Ruud van Nistelrooy has penned a touching farewell to Manchester United after completing his brief tenure as interim manager. The Dutchman stepped into the role following Erik ten Hag’s dismissal last month, overseeing a short but eventful spell.
Van Nistelrooy guided the team to an emphatic 3-0 Premier League victory over Leicester City in what turned out to be his final match in charge. With Ruben Amorim set to take over after the international break, Van Nistelrooy expressed his gratitude and well-wishes in an open letter to the club, shared on social media.
“To everyone at Manchester United Football Club, in particular the backroom staff, the players, and the fans,” he wrote. “I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your incredible efforts and support.
“It has been a privilege and honour to represent the club as a player, coach, and manager, and I will always cherish the memories we have shared together.
“Man United will always have a special place in my heart, and I hope there are many more glory days at Old Trafford very soon—not only because I want the club to do well, but because you all deserve it! All the best and take care, Ruud.”
During his short spell, Van Nistelrooy oversaw four matches, including a Carabao Cup triumph over Leicester City with a 5-2 victory, a Europa League win against PAOK, and a league draw with Chelsea. His achievements have already sparked speculation about his next managerial move.
A club legend who scored 150 goals during his prolific playing career at Old Trafford, Van Nistelrooy leaves a legacy of professionalism and passion both on and off the pitch.
His departure paves the way for Ruben Amorim, who will bring his own coaching staff to the club. The Portuguese head coach begins his tenure with an away match against Ipswich Town on November 24.
