Sir Jim Ratcliffe Determined to Bring Arsenal Target Martin Zubimendi to Manchester United

United Eye Major Midfield Acquisition Amid Summer Rebuild

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is resolute in his efforts to secure the signature of Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad for Manchester United this summer. Renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has highlighted the club’s interest in the highly sought-after midfielder, despite the challenges involved in finalizing a deal.

Manchester United are undergoing a significant rebuild as they aim to reestablish themselves among the Premier League elite. Ratcliffe, cognizant of the club’s underwhelming eighth-place finish last season, is determined to elevate the squad. Despite their FA Cup victory, Ratcliffe acknowledges the extensive work required to consistently challenge top teams like Manchester City.

To bolster their ranks, United have already signed promising talents Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro for a combined £88.7 million. Ratcliffe has set his sights on securing at least four more players, with a new right-back and central midfielder as immediate priorities. The club is also considering additions in central defense, a right-sided attacker, and potentially a left-back.

Interest in Zubimendi has intensified as United seek to enhance their midfield options. Although Arsenal had shown interest in the Spanish international, they have reportedly stepped back, leaving the door open for United. Romano confirmed the Red Devils’ pursuit but acknowledged the complexities, citing Zubimendi’s €60 million release clause and his contentment at Real Sociedad.

“There is a €60 million release clause, but the player is not desperate to leave the club. He has always been very happy at Real Sociedad. It’s his city, it’s his country, so that’s why Zubimendi is not an easy deal,” Romano stated. However, United are reportedly willing to make a substantial investment to secure the midfielder’s services.

Reports from Spain suggest United have already matched the €60 million fee and are prepared to make an even more lucrative offer if necessary. Zubimendi, whose contract with Sociedad runs until 2027, is reportedly weighing his options carefully.

Ratcliffe’s determination to land Zubimendi is underscored by Spain coach Luis de la Fuente’s high praise, placing the Sociedad star alongside Manchester City’s Rodri as one of the “two best central midfielders in the world.”

As United continue their pre-season preparations, the potential acquisition of Zubimendi could significantly strengthen their midfield, providing manager Erik ten Hag with a vital asset for the upcoming campaign.
