Manchester United’s Ten Hag Faces Uncertain Future Amidst New Ownership Reshuffle
Manchester United’s current manager, Erik ten Hag, is reportedly in a precarious position as new owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe considers a shake-up at Old Trafford, with a list of potential replacements already in the works. While Ratcliffe’s takeover is pending Premier League ratification, significant changes are looming, including the possible appointment of Manchester City’s Omar Berrada as United’s new chief executive.
The INEOS owner expects his takeover deal to be formalized in February, triggering a series of adjustments within the club’s hierarchy. Despite Ten Hag’s recent assurance of a “positive” meeting with Ratcliffe, reports suggest that the Dutchman’s role as United’s manager is under threat, especially considering the team’s challenging season.
According to a report from TEAMtalk, “some senior club figures see him as just a temporary boss as there are desires for a new manager in the summer.” Ratcliffe is allegedly eyeing several potential candidates, and the surprise addition to the three-man shortlist is OGC Nice boss Francesco Farioli.
The speculation around Ten Hag’s future intensified, despite the manager’s positive sentiments about his discussions with Ratcliffe. The report suggests that there is a growing inclination within the club for a managerial change in the summer, viewing Ten Hag’s role as temporary.
Former Liverpool star Steve McManaman weighed in on potential candidates, suggesting, “Why not go for Xabi Alonso, who’s at the top of the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen?” He questioned the choice of Graham Potter, emphasizing the need for a manager with recent success rather than one who has been out of work for an extended period.
As Manchester United navigates a challenging season, the prospect of a new owner and potential managerial changes adds an air of uncertainty to Ten Hag’s future at the helm. The reshuffling at Old Trafford is expected to continue evolving as Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s ownership takes shape.
