The under-pressure manager reveals he has spoken with the club’s owners after a humiliating defeat, insisting their support remains “the same.”
Liverpool manager Arne Slot has received backing from the club’s ownership in the wake of the team’s historic slump, confirming he has held talks with Fenway Sports Group following Wednesday’s 4-1 humiliation by PSV Eindhoven.
The crushing loss at Anfield marks a staggering ninth defeat in just twelve games for the reigning Premier League champions, a run of form not seen at the club for 71 years. The collapse has been dramatic, with the team also suffering heavy back-to-back 3-0 losses to Manchester City and Nottingham Forest.

Facing intense scrutiny, Slot revealed that his conversations with the owners have been consistent and supportive. “We’ve had the same conversations that we’ve had since I got here,” Slot said on Thursday, ahead of Liverpool’s crucial match against West Ham. “We fight on. We try to improve, but the conversations have been the same as they have been for the last one and a half years.”
Despite the team’s alarming drop in standards, the Dutchman refused to point fingers at his squad. When asked if he felt let down by underperforming players, he was firm.
“Not at all,” he stated. “I do agree that our standards have not been of the standards we are used to. We think we can play better.”
He reiterated his long-held belief in focusing on the collective over individuals, a mantra from the good times that he is applying to the bad. “Last season when we did really well, there was focus on individuals and I said we should focus on the team. If the opposite is happening, we should also look at the team and not individuals.”
For now, the public vote of confidence from the owners offers Slot a lifeline. However, with patience wearing thin among fans and results not improving, the pressure to turn the team’s fortunes around remains immense.
