Legendary Collaboration with Sting Adds Unexpected Twist to Iconic Duo’s Latest Project
Fresh from their headline-grabbing performance at the Paris 2024 Olympics closing ceremony, iconic hip-hop duo Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre are preparing to release their latest album, “Missionary,” set to drop this November. The project marks the first full-length collaboration between the two since the groundbreaking 1993 album “Doggystyle.”
The upcoming album features a surprising addition: legendary musician Sting. In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Dr. Dre couldn’t contain his enthusiasm, stating, “We have Sting on the song. Man, it’s an amazing roster of artists on this album. I shouldn’t have revealed that, to be honest.”
This unexpected collaboration brings a new dimension to “Missionary,” which is already generating buzz as a continuation of Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg’s storied partnership. The duo’s musical chemistry was first showcased on Dre’s seminal 1992 album “The Chronic,” which introduced Snoop Dogg to the world and set the stage for his debut album, “Doggystyle,” the following year.
Dr. Dre highlighted the evolution in their music, sharing, “This one’s gonna show a different level of maturity with his lyrics and with my music. I feel like this is some of the best music I’ve done in my career.” He added, “It’s an album that women are going to enjoy, and like I said, it shows a massive amount of growth and maturity with the lyrics and with the music.”
The production process has been intensive, with Dre revealing, “I wanted 14 songs, Snoop wants 16, so we have that thing happening. I’m on song number 11 as far as the mixes go. I have to be done and delivered by September 1 to have a November release.”
Dr. Dre’s influence on the music industry is undeniable. His debut solo album, “The Chronic” (1992), reached No. 3 on the Billboard 200, featuring the iconic single “Nuthin’ but a ‘G’ Thang,” which peaked at No. 2 on the Hot 100. His 1999 follow-up, “2001,” continued his chart success with hits like “Still D.R.E.” and “Forgot About Dre.”
As a producer, Dre has been instrumental in launching careers and producing chart-topping albums and singles, including playing a pivotal role in Eminem’s rise to fame.
With “Missionary,” fans can expect a blend of the classic and the new, promising a significant moment in the storied careers of both Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg.
