President Yoon Suk Yeol Accuses Opposition of Threatening Constitutional Order

In a dramatic escalation of political tensions, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has declared emergency martial law, alleging that the opposition Democratic Party has engaged in “anti-state activities” and is preparing a “rebellion.”

In a televised address on Tuesday, Yoon accused the Democratic Party, which holds a parliamentary majority, of paralyzing the government and acting against national interests.

“This martial law aims to eradicate pro-North Korean forces and protect the constitutional order of freedom,” Yoon stated, as reported by Yonhap News Agency.

Military on High Alert

The President’s announcement has triggered immediate action from the nation’s Defense Ministry, which has summoned senior military commanders for an emergency meeting and placed the armed forces on full alert.

While the details of the alleged rebellion remain unclear, the declaration reflects growing tensions between Yoon’s administration and the opposition, whose policies he claims are sympathetic toward North Korea.

Political Fallout

The move is expected to further deepen the political divide in South Korea, with critics likely to view the declaration as a power grab while supporters may argue it is necessary to safeguard national stability.

The international community is closely monitoring the situation as South Korea’s political turmoil unfolds, raising concerns about potential repercussions for regional security.
