Lagos Authorities Still Investigating as Controversial Entertainer Insists Story Was “Made Up for Engagement”
Nigerian singer Speed Darlington has sparked outrage and confusion after first admitting—then denying—an inappropriate relationship with a 15-year-old girl. The social media firestorm began when the controversial artist confessed to the alleged encounter during an Instagram Live session, triggering immediate backlash and intervention from authorities.
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) swiftly responded, acknowledging the viral video and clarifying that while the incident’s location remains unclear, they have escalated the matter to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for investigation.
“We reaffirm our zero-tolerance stance against all forms of sexual violence,” the DSVA stated, urging witnesses to come forward. NAPTIP briefly acknowledged the case on X with a cryptic “Respect” but has yet to provide further details.
However, in a dramatic reversal, Darlington later claimed the entire confession was fabricated. Defending himself in another live session, the singer—who describes himself as a “content creator”—insisted the story was pure fiction, crafted to generate engagement.
“I whip stories out of my head and thin air,” he declared, refusing to offer any clarification. “I’m an entertainer; I have to be entertaining to get the bag.”
The conflicting statements have left the public divided, with many questioning whether Darlington is attempting to evade accountability. Authorities, however, appear to be treating the matter seriously, regardless of his retraction. As investigations continue, the case highlights the blurred lines between online provocation and real-world consequences.
