As Manchester United Prepares for New Leadership, Sporting Lines Up Amorim’s Successor
With Ruben Amorim’s anticipated move to Manchester United to replace Erik ten Hag, Sporting CP is reportedly wasting no time in appointing his successor. According to Portuguese sources, Sporting has already identified Joao Pereira, currently head of their second team, as the next head coach.
Amorim, who led Sporting to two Portuguese league titles, is expected to bring three trusted coaching staff members, Carlos Fernandes, Adelio Candido, and Jorge Vital, with him to Old Trafford.
Manchester United moved swiftly to secure Amorim’s services after parting ways with Erik ten Hag, who left the club in 14th place in the Premier League. While former Red Devils legend Ruud van Nistelrooy will manage the team for their Carabao Cup match against Leicester, the club hopes Amorim will be able to take charge for Sunday’s Premier League showdown against Chelsea.
Amorim’s reported final game with Sporting will be Tuesday night’s Portuguese League Cup match against Nacional. Although he rested star striker Viktor Gyokeres, it is rumored that Gyokeres may become a top transfer target for United as early as January.
Meanwhile, ten Hag’s future remains active in the rumor mill. Reports suggest Borussia Dortmund may be interested in appointing the Dutch coach, while others indicate he nearly resigned from United last summer. Liverpool manager Arne Slot expressed sympathy for ten Hag, acknowledging his achievements and expressing confidence that he will soon find success with a top club. “We know how well he did at Ajax,” Slot said. “I think we’ll see him in the near future at a big club again.”
