Italian Defender Receives Club Support After Harrowing London Incident, Suspect Arrested
Tottenham Hotspur has confirmed that defender Destiny Udogie was the victim of a terrifying incident in September, in which a football agent threatened him with a firearm in London.
The 22-year-old Italian international was allegedly targeted on the evening of September 6th, prompting a police response. The Metropolitan Police launched an investigation, leading to the arrest of a 31-year-old agent just two days later on suspicion of multiple offenses, including possessing a firearm with intent and blackmail. No injuries were reported from the ordeal.
Spurs have been supporting Udogie and his family since the event. “We have been providing support for Destiny and his family since the incident and will continue to do so,” a club spokesperson stated. “Given this is a legal matter, we cannot comment any further.”
The left-back, who has since returned to the pitch and started in Tuesday’s 4-0 Champions League victory over FC Copenhagen, has already made a significant professional change in the wake of the incident. He has switched representation, signing with a new agency group in October.
Udogie, who joined Spurs from Udinese in 2022, has made 76 appearances for the North London club. The club and its fans will be hoping for a continued focus on his promising career after such a disturbing off-pitch event.
