North London club submits formal offer for Dutch star after having their own move for Eberechi Eze snatched by rivals, turning the tables in a dramatic transfer twist.
In a dramatic late window power play, Tottenham Hotspur have launched an audacious attempt to hijack Chelsea’s long-pursued move for RB Leipzig playmaker Xavi Simons.
The North London club, still stinging from seeing their own deal for Eberechi Eze intercepted by Arsenal last week, has now submitted a formal offer believed to be close to Leipzig’s €70 million asking price. According to an exclusive from Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, “No offer from Chelsea yet,” putting Spurs in the driver’s seat for the Dutch international’s signature.
Simons, who is already in London, had previously agreed on personal terms with Chelsea. However, the Blues’ delay in finalizing a deal with Leipzig has opened the door for a rival bid. Spurs are urgently seeking a creative force to fill the void left by the injured James Maddison and have moved decisively to meet the German club’s valuation.
The move signals a significant shift in strategy for Chelsea. While not yet completely out of the running, the West London club appears to be pivoting its focus towards a deal for Barcelona’s Fermin Lopez, for whom they have lodged a €65 million bid.
Chelsea’s immediate priority is now on player sales, having agreed to send Christopher Nkunku to AC Milan and working to offload several other first-team players, including Nicolas Jackson and Raheem Sterling. This need to balance the books has created a window of opportunity for Tottenham to swoop in, turning the hunters into the hunted in a high-stakes transfer showdown.
