Eguavoen Clarifies Position Amid Speculation Following Rwanda Draw
Super Eagles interim coach Augustine Eguavoen has denied reports claiming he has resigned from his position following Nigeria’s goalless draw with Rwanda. The rumors surfaced on Tuesday, suggesting Eguavoen had stepped down after the disappointing result, but the coach has labeled the reports as false.
“It’s unfortunate that incorrect rumors are circulating, especially when we need positive support,” Eguavoen said upon the team’s return to Abuja. “I only mentioned that I would discuss my future with the federation’s officials after these two games and plan for the next matches.”
Eguavoen has been serving as the interim head coach after the Nigeria Football Federation failed to appoint a permanent coach ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
