Real Madrid Star Cleared Amidst Challenging Times On and Off the Pitch
Kylian Mbappe has received welcome news amid a turbulent period, as Swedish prosecutors have formally dropped rape allegations against him. The Real Madrid forward, who has faced challenges both on and off the field, can now put this chapter behind him and focus on his career.
The allegations arose during an international break in October but were dismissed due to insufficient evidence. Marina Chirakova, head of the preliminary investigation, stated in a press release:
“During the investigation, one person reasonably suspected of rape and two cases of sexual harassment was identified, but I consider that the evidence is not sufficient to continue the proceedings and therefore the investigation is closed. The named person has not been charged with a crime.”
Mbappe had denied the allegations from the outset, branding them as “fake news.” Addressing the matter in an interview with Canal+, he said:
“I read the same thing as everyone else. The Swedish government didn’t say anything. I’m not concerned… It’s just incomprehension. It didn’t weigh on me because I never felt concerned. There’s a lot of noise, but I’ve always had the same intention: to concentrate on my job and see how it ends.”
Injury Concerns Add to On-Field Challenges
While Mbappe can move forward from these legal troubles, he now faces injury concerns after suffering a hamstring issue during Real Madrid’s 3-2 Champions League win over Atalanta. The injury forced him to leave the pitch in the first half, shortly after scoring a brilliant opening goal.
Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti downplayed the severity of the injury, saying:
“It’s an overload, a discomfort in the hamstring. It doesn’t seem to be anything serious. We’ll see tomorrow. He couldn’t sprint, it bothered him a little, and we preferred to replace him.”
Despite Ancelotti’s reassurances, there is speculation that Mbappe may have played his last game of 2024, with Real Madrid likely to err on the side of caution during his recovery.
As Mbappe focuses on his health and form, fans and teammates will hope to see the star return to his best, leaving behind both legal and physical setbacks.
