The young Barcelona midfielder reveals a wave of dressing-room support was key to his decision to stay and fight for his place at Camp Nou.
Barcelona youngster Fermín López has revealed how a wave of support from his teammates and a strong endorsement from manager Hansi Flick were the decisive factors in his choice to reject a late bid from Chelsea and remain with the Catalan club.
The Premier League side made a move for the midfielder late in the summer transfer window, presenting the 21-year-old with a major career decision. Ultimately, the persuasive efforts of the Barça dressing room made his choice clear.
“I’ve had a few conversations with some of them,” López told Mundo Deportivo. “But the whole team has been very supportive this week, and everyone wanted me to stay. The support from the dressing room is appreciated.”
When pressed for names, he highlighted conversations with senior figures, saying, “Quite a few, but I can tell you… Ter Stegen, for example. With him, with Ronald [Araújo], with Pedri… With quite a few players, really. Raphinha too.”
His decision was further bolstered by the public and private backing of manager Hansi Flick. In a recent press conference, Flick firmly stated that López was a “really important player for us” and praised his unique style, which is “different to other players.”
The news will be a relief to Barcelona fans, who see López as an exciting product of the famed La Masia academy. His commitment, secured not by contracts alone but by the compelling unity of the squad, strengthens the team’s spirit ahead of the new season.
