Temi Otedola on Love, Legacy, and Carving Her Own Path

The actress and director opens up about her decision to take her husband Mr Eazi’s surname and the powerful lessons from her father’s memoir.

In a candid new interview, actress Temi Otedola has shared intimate details about her marriage to Afrobeats star Mr Eazi, her famous family, and her journey to build an independent career. The conversation revealed a woman thoughtfully navigating life in the public eye while honoring her personal values.

Speaking with the BBC, Otedola, who married musician Oluwatosin Ajibade (known professionally as Mr Eazi), explained that her decision to become Temi Ajibade was a deeply personal one. “I’m now a married woman, the obvious thing for me is to take my husband’s name. But it’s my personal choice,” she stated, while also affirming her respect for every woman’s right to make her own decision on the matter.

She credited a strategy of privacy for allowing her relationship to flourish on its own terms. “Moving in silence allows you to build the story you want and share it when and how you’re ready,” Otedola shared, highlighting the control this approach has given her over her own narrative.

The conversation also turned to her father, billionaire businessman Femi Otedola, and his recently released memoir. Temi described the book as a “window into his long entrepreneurial journey,” offering the public the same invaluable guidance she has received firsthand.

Reflecting on her upbringing, she openly acknowledged her privileged background but revealed a pivotal, and initially disappointing, choice her father made: to not involve his children in his businesses. This decision, she explained, ultimately became the driving force behind her own ambition to build a name for herself in the arts, separate from the family empire. She pointed to her father’s resilience during tough times as one of her greatest sources of motivation.
