Brentford’s new signing shines at the Gtech Community Stadium as the Red Devils’ frailties are exposed once again, leaving the new manager searching for answers.
A brace from summer signing Igor Thiago propelled Brentford to a commanding 3-1 victory over Manchester United on Wednesday night, piling the pressure on United’s new manager, Ruben Amorim, who is still waiting for his first consecutive league wins.
The home side exploded out of the gates, taking the lead after just eight minutes. Thiago latched onto a searching long ball from Jordan Henderson, powered into the box, and unleashed a thunderous strike into the top corner, leaving goalkeeper Altay Bayindir with no chance.
Brentford’s dominance continued, and they doubled their advantage twelve minutes later. A frantic goal-mouth scramble ensued after Bayindir could only parry Kevin Schade’s driven cross, and Thiago was quickest to react, pouncing to tap in his second of the night.
United, who looked vulnerable particularly from set-pieces, managed to claw a goal back before the half-hour mark. Benjamin Šeško was in the right place to bury the rebound from a saved effort, scoring his maiden goal for the club and offering a glimmer of hope.

That hope was nearly extinguished when a penalty was awarded after a neat combination between Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. However, Brentford’s goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher came to the rescue, diving to his right to brilliantly save Bruno Fernandes’ spot-kick.
Any chance of a United comeback was finally killed off in stoppage time when substitute Mathias Jensen curled a beautiful shot into the net to seal a well-deserved three points for the Bees.
The result lifts Brentford to 11th place in the table with seven points, while United sit just below them in 13th, level on points but with a worse goal difference. The pressure now mounts on Amorim as his team prepares to host Sunderland on Saturday, while Brentford face the daunting task of welcoming Manchester City next Sunday.
