“This is Unacceptable!” – VeryDarkMan Stands With Benue Protesters Amid Teargas Crackdown

Social Media Activist Joins Grieving Youths as Security Forces Disperse Peaceful Anti-Killing Protest

Makurdi erupted in both grief and outrage on Sunday as thousands of Benue youths, dressed in mourning black and carrying placards, blocked the Abuja-Makurdi highway to protest the latest massacre in Yelewata community. Their peaceful demonstration took a violent turn when security forces fired teargas into the crowd—just as popular activist VeryDarkMan arrived to amplify their cries for justice.

The protest, sparked by the killing of over 200 villagers in Guma LGA barely 24 hours earlier, saw youths waving palm fronds—a traditional symbol of distress—while demanding an end to the relentless bloodshed in their communities. But the atmosphere turned chaotic as security personnel moved in, sending protesters fleeing amid clouds of teargas, with reports of injuries emerging from the scene.

Vincent Otse, better known as VeryDarkMan, livestreamed the crackdown, his voice rising in anger as he condemned the government’s heavy-handed response. “These young people are mourning their loved ones, yet the government chooses teargas instead of action,” the fiery influencer declared to his massive online following. “We cannot be silent while our people are being slaughtered daily.”

His presence has galvanized attention on the crisis, with many now asking: When will the killings stop—and why does the state seem quicker to silence mourners than to protect lives? As dusk fell on Makurdi, the highway stood empty but for scattered placards—a stark reminder that while protests may be dispersed, the demand for justice cannot be teargassed away.
