Zainab Ibrahim, 34, was sentenced to six months in prison by a Sharia Court in Rigasa, Kaduna, on Wednesday for torching the home of her former husband’s new wife.

Earlier, prosecuting attorney Sambo Maigari told the court that the offense was in violation of Shari’a criminal procedure sections 174 and 373.

He claimed the inmate admitted to using fuel to set fire to the new bride’s house out of envy.

She said that she was an obedient wife to her ex-husband until he divorced her to marry another woman in her pleading for forgiveness.

“He had promised to bring me back to my matrimonial home but did not after I served him and his parents for many years.

“The house belongs to me and my seven children,” she said.

The Judge, Malam Salisu Abubakar-Tureta sentenced Ibrahim after she pleaded criminal trespass and mischief by fire.

The judge, however, gave the convict an option of a N10,000 fine.
