Thomas Partey Opens Door to Arsenal Exit as Financial Future Comes Into Focus

Midfielder Admits “Family Needs Money” Amid Contract Standoff and Barcelona Interest

Thomas Partey has cast doubt over his Arsenal future in a revealing interview, acknowledging that financial security for his family will play a key role in deciding his next move. The 31-year-old midfielder, whose contract expires this summer, refused to commit to the Gunners while speaking with 3Sports during international duty with Ghana.

“At the end of the day, we all have a family that needs money—this is in our mind,” Partey said. “We are not getting younger. There are a lot of things you have to consider now with a family, where you want them to be happy.”

While Arsenal have publicly stated they want to extend his stay, Partey’s hesitation comes amid reported interest from Barcelona and the potential arrival of Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi, which could further limit his playing time. The Ghanaian emphasized that happiness and ambition will also factor into his decision.

“The first thing is where you are happy and where you feel at home,” he explained. “Then it’s about what is your next objective and what you want to achieve.”

Despite being a fan favorite and a key part of Mikel Arteta’s squad last season—making 35 Premier League appearances—Partey was reluctant to call it his best campaign, though he insisted he always gave his all.

“I feel happy in myself—every year, injury or no injury, I have given my best,” he said.

With negotiations ongoing, Arsenal face a delicate balancing act: retaining an experienced leader while planning for the future. For Partey, the decision now rests between loyalty, ambition, and the financial realities of a footballer’s career.
