Influencer Faces Defamation Charges After Viral Rant Against Senator’s Wife, Bail Decision Pending
Popular TikTok personality Gabriel Timothy, widely known as Tumma, is now behind bars at Kuje Correctional Centre following explosive allegations he made against Nollywood actress Regina Daniels and her husband, Senator Ned Nwoko. The social media star was charged with defamation, cyberstalking, and injurious falsehood after accusing Daniels of infidelity in a now-viral online rant.
Bail Hearing Adjourned as Legal Battle Heats Up
A Federal High Court in Abuja has set July 25, 2025, as the date to decide whether Tumma will be granted bail or remain in custody. During Wednesday’s hearing, his lawyer, S.M. Oyeghe, urged Justice Yilwa H. Joseph to release him on bail, citing constitutional rights to personal liberty. “We are only asking that our client be granted bail on liberal terms,” Oyeghe pleaded. However, prosecutors pushed back, arguing that Tumma had failed to present sufficient grounds for bail.

Senator Nwoko Fires Back, Defends Family’s Reputation
Senator Nwoko’s legal team condemned Tumma’s remarks as “vile, reckless, and malicious,” claiming the influencer deliberately targeted the couple’s reputation. In a stern statement, the senator emphasized that freedom of speech does not permit defamation or online harassment. “There is no democracy anywhere in the world where freedom of speech includes freedom to defame, blackmail, or incite hatred under the guise of online influence,” Nwoko declared.
What’s Next for Tumma?
As the court prepares to rule on bail next week, the case has sparked debates about the limits of free speech in Nigeria’s digital age. Will Tumma walk free, or will he remain in detention as the trial unfolds? One thing is certain—this legal drama is far from over.
