The music icon argues it’s “unfair” to exclude the Grammy-winning breakthrough artist from the industry’s most prestigious conversation, sparking a fresh debate about representation and achievement.
In a move that is set to redefine the hierarchy of Afrobeats, legendary singer Tiwa Savage has publicly questioned the industry’s famous “Big 3” label, a title long reserved for megastars Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy.

Savage argues that the conversation is incomplete without acknowledging the monumental success of Tems, whose rapid global ascent has broken barriers for the genre.
In a recent interview, seated calmly in a black leather jacket, Savage made her case with conviction. “I also feel like it’s unfair to have that conversation about the Big 3 and not mention someone like Tems,” she stated.
Her point highlights the impressive, record-breaking achievements of Tems, which include winning a Grammy Award, landing a song on the prestigious Billboard Hot 100 chart, and collaborating with some of the biggest names in international music, from Drake to Rihanna.
Tems has been widely recognized as a pivotal force in propelling Afrobeats to its current level of global popularity. By calling for her inclusion in the “Big 3” discourse, Tiwa Savage is not just championing a colleague but is challenging the very foundations of how the genre celebrates its top talent, igniting a crucial debate about recognition in the fast-evolving world of Afrobeats.
