Todd Boehly Reportedly Considering Sale of Chelsea Shares After Two Years

Ownership Shake-Up Looms as Relationship with Co-Owner Behdad Eghbali Deteriorates

Chelsea could soon undergo a significant change at the ownership level, with reports suggesting that Todd Boehly is looking to sell his shares in the club just two years after acquiring it. A Boehly-led consortium bought Chelsea from Roman Abramovich in May 2022 for £4.25 billion, but recent tensions with co-owner Behdad Eghbali may lead to a major shake-up.

Since Boehly’s takeover, Chelsea has spent over £1 billion on transfers, bringing in high-profile players like Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, and Mykhailo Mudryk. However, the lavish spending has not yet translated into success, with the club finishing 12th and 6th in the Premier League in the last two seasons and failing to secure major trophies.

According to Bloomberg UK, the relationship between Boehly and Eghbali, co-owner and Clearlake Capital executive, has worsened in recent months. As a result, Boehly is reportedly considering selling his shares, while Clearlake Capital is contemplating buying him out to gain more control of the club. Clearlake holds a 61.5% stake in Chelsea, which will remain unaffected.

Before any potential buyout can be finalized, all parties involved in Chelsea’s ownership structure, including Boehly, must agree to the terms. Clearlake is confident in the current leadership, having appointed key sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart. They believe the club is on the verge of turning things around and becoming a serious contender for Premier League titles, despite the recent struggles.

Meanwhile, former Chelsea player Conor Gallagher dismissed claims that he was sold because he didn’t fit into manager Enzo Maresca’s style. Gallagher praised his time under Mauricio Pochettino, emphasizing that he had the support of the coach and the fans during his Chelsea stint.

As uncertainty looms over Chelsea’s ownership, fans will be keenly watching how the situation develops and what it could mean for the club’s future.
