Blues Struggle to Convince Striker Amid Saudi Offer
Chelsea are refusing to give up in their pursuit of Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, despite the Nigerian international’s recent rejection of their advances. Osimhen has been a top target for the Stamford Bridge club for several months, but concerns over the ability to meet Napoli’s steep asking price initially cast doubt on the deal.
While Napoli has shown some flexibility, lowering their demands from the initial €130 million to a loan deal with an obligation to buy, Chelsea are now facing challenges in agreeing on personal terms with the 25-year-old striker. Osimhen currently earns approximately €11 million per year in Italy, and reports suggest he is unwilling to take a pay cut, while Chelsea insists that he must fit into their existing wage structure.
This financial impasse has become a significant obstacle. On Thursday evening, it was reported that Osimhen had reached an agreement with Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli for a lucrative four-year deal worth €160 million. The contract includes a release clause that could allow him to leave after just two years for as little as €50 million.
Despite this, Chelsea are still trying to turn the situation around. According to Fabrice Hawkins of RMC, officials from Stamford Bridge are currently in Naples, attempting to convince Osimhen to reconsider and move to the Premier League.
However, the message from the striker remains firm: he will not accept a reduced salary to leave Napoli. As a result, Osimhen appears closer to a move to the Saudi Pro League, where he stands to earn four times his current salary.
