Injury concerns prompt potential January transfer move, but Crystal Palace’s Guehi may prefer a summer switch
Manchester United is reportedly considering a £60 million move for Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi as they grapple with defensive issues. The recent pairing of Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans at centre-back against Sheffield United due to injuries has underscored the need for reinforcements, prompting the club to explore options ahead of the January transfer window.
Despite Guehi enduring a challenging outing in Crystal Palace’s recent 4-0 loss to Newcastle United, the 21-year-old remains a sought-after talent, occupying the third-choice centre-back position in Gareth Southgate’s England squad. Football Insider suggests that Palace could entertain a £60 million offer, but Guehi’s preference for regular first-team football before the 2024 European Championships might delay a potential move until the summer.
While Manchester United is keen to bolster its defensive lineup, Guehi’s reluctance to switch clubs in the January window due to his desire for consistent playing time poses a potential obstacle. The report indicates that Palace is considering gauging Guehi’s interest in a new deal, but the growing interest from other clubs may lead to a departure next summer.
In a separate transfer development, Arsenal, Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, and West Ham United are reportedly monitoring Valencia’s 20-year-old starlet Javi Guerra. Despite Valencia’s sporting director expressing reluctance to sell, Guerra’s €100 million (£87 million) release clause, coupled with interest from Premier League clubs, may prompt a move in the upcoming transfer windows.
According to 90min, Arsenal, Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, and West Ham United have scouted Guerra in recent weeks, with the midfielder boasting four goal involvements in nine Premier League games this season. Manchester United had previously shown interest, making visits to watch him earlier this year.
Meanwhile, Liverpool is reportedly considering Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala as a potential replacement for the anticipated departure of Mo Salah. Salah’s impressive form this season has attracted interest, and Liverpool is exploring alternatives. Football Insider suggests that Liverpool is doing due diligence on a move for Musiala, who is frustrated with his limited starting opportunities at Bayern Munich. Liverpool is reportedly sounding out the possibility of a swoop for the talented youngster.
